KINGSPORT, Tenn. - The Kingsport Mets were one out away from closing out a win in the series opener against the Bristol Pirates, but the Buccos found enough magic to turn back the Mets 6-4 in 11.
A two-out, two-strike RBI-single by Daniel Rivero tied the game for Bristol. Then, after teams traded zeros in the 10th, Bristol was able to plate two unearned runs off Kingsport reliever Nixon Silva.
Bear Bellomy came in for Bristol and retired all three men he faced in the 11th to nail down the save for the Pirates.
The late game heroics by the Pirates overshadowed the great work by Kingsport starting pitcher Cesar Loaiza and center fielder Tanner Murphy.
Loaiza went five strong innings allowing just one run, while striking out five and walking none.
Murphy went 2-5 at the plate, scoring two runs, knocking in three, including a solo home run in the 6th that gave the Mets a 4-3 advantage.
The Mets and Pirates will continue the three-game set tomorrow evening at Hunter Wright Stadium.
Tomorrow night is $2 off Tuesday presented by Food City. Fans will receive $2 off of general admission tickets.
Wednesday is Senior Night presented by Humana and USSSA Night.
