The K-Mets are back in the win column with an exciting 2-1 victory over the Pulaski Yankees at Hunter Wright Stadium on Monday night.
It was a pitcher's duel throughout, with just a combined nine hits and five walks over the nine innings.
Pulaski (5-8) got a strong start by Wellington Caceres, who went 4.2 innings and allowed just two runs. Those came in the fifth inning as Kingsport (8-4) plated a run off of a Guillermo Granadillo fielder's choice and a wild pitch.
Brett Morales and Carlos Espinal threw the final 3.1 innings and allowed just one base runner over that span. However, the two runs would be enough for K-Mets' starter Matt Cleveland and the bullpen.
Cleveland picked up the win by throwing five shutout innings, allowing just a single and three walks. Andrew Ryan threw a perfect sixth inning, and Luis Silva threw two uneventful innings to bridge the gap to Andrew Mitchell.
Mitchell, the Auburn University product, gave up a leadoff homer to Ezequiel Duran to lose the shutout, before striking out the next three Yankees.

However thanks to a pair of wild pitches, one of which allowed Carlos Tatis to reach, the Yankees had the tying run at second instead of the game being over. What happened next will be remembered for a long time by the fans at Hunter Wright Stadium.
Mitchell uncorked another pitch in the dirt, which deflected off of catcher Hayden Senger to the first base dugout. Yankees pinch runner Evan Alexander advanced to third easily but had thoughts of tying the game. Senger flagged down the ball and hit Mitchell covering the plate, who applied the tag in the nick of time to allow Kingsport to escape with a 2-1 victory and Mitchell to earn his first professional save.
The win evened up the Appalachian League Subway Series at a game apiece. The rubber match of this three-game set is slated for tomorrow evening at 6:30 p.m. Tomorrow is $2 Tuesday at Hunter Wright, where fans can enjoy $2 hot dogs, sodas, and beer.
