The Kingsport Mets finished off the home stand in style as they pounded out 10 hits and scored 14 runs in a 14-4 drubbing of the Elizabethton Twins on Monday night at Hunter Wright Stadium.
The win cuts Elizabethton's Appalachian League West Division lead to just two games.
Mets starting pitcher Daison Acosta got into some trouble in the first, and allowed a pair of runs off of RBI-singles by Chris Williams and Alex Robles. But Acosta settled down and was able to get through four innings allowing just three runs, keeping the Mets in the game.
The Mets offense backed their starter, first with a pair of runs in the second to tie the game, then the offense really exploded in the third.
Kingsport sent 12 men to the plate and scored six runs in the third frame. The biggest blow in the inning was a three-run triple by Raul Beracierta, who finished 3-5 with four RBIs.
The Mets kept their foot on the gas, as Shervyen Newton homered in the fifth to expand the Mets' lead to 10-3.
A trio of Mets' reliever ensured that the high-powered offense of Elizabethton could not come back. Joel Huertas, Liam McCall, and Eric Villanueva combined to throw the final five innings, and allowed just one unearned run.
Although the insurance wasn't needed, the Mets offense poured on four more over the late innings to coast to the 14-4 win.
The Mets will observe a league-wide off day tomorrow, before hitting the road for a six-game road trip that entails three games in Princeton and three games in Bristol.
The K-Mets will be back in action at Hunter Wright Stadium next Tuesday to open up a three-game series against the Danville Braves.
