BB&T Ballpark to Host WBT SkyShow & Team USA Game on July 4th

October 25, 2016

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- For the second time in three seasons, USA Baseball will face the Cuban National Team at BB&T Ballpark on the Fourth of July. The exciting day in Uptown Charlotte will also feature the 41st Annual WBT SkyShow, which includes the largest fireworks show in the Southeast. Gates will open at 5:00 p.m. and first pitch of the game is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. at BB&T Ballpark.

"We are very pleased to bring these two national teams together once again to play at BB&T Ballpark on the Fourth of July," stated Dan Rajkowski, Charlotte Knights Chief Operating Officer. "Combining this game again with the WBT SkyShow will be one for the ages. Two years ago, this event quickly sold out and we look forward to welcoming another sold-out crowd to BB&T Ballpark on the Fourth of July in 2017."

Overall, SkyShow returns to BB&T Ballpark for a fourth consecutive year and will once again kick off with a SkyShow Street Party on Mint Street. Live music, games, prizes, and a one-of-a-kind fireworks show headline the annual event. Thousands of people from in and around the Uptown Charlotte area have watched the fireworks show in each of the past three seasons.

"News Talk 1110, WBT is proud to be partnered with the Charlotte Knights again in 2017 to present SkyShow, the Southeast's biggest and best fireworks display," said WBT Operations Manager, Matt Dubois. "Since 1976, WBT has been able to provide fireworks for the city of Charlotte and next year will be no exception."

USA and Cuba resumed a yearly international friendship series in 2012 after a 16-year hiatus. Since then, Team USA has won 13 games, while Cuba has won 12. Over the course of the recent five-year series, Team USA has won the series each of the past two years (2015 & 2016). Team USA beat the Cuban National Team 11-1 at BB&T Ballpark on July 4, 2015.

"USA Baseball couldn't be happier than to announce this Fourth of July game against Cuba hosted by the Charlotte Knights at BB&T Ballpark next summer," said Paul Seiler, Executive Director of USA Baseball. "Our game in Charlotte in 2015 with Cuba was the highlight of our summer and we are looking forward to another sold-out game as Team USA takes on world baseball power, Cuba."

Friday Night Fireworks, presented by 107.9 The Link, News Talk 1110 WBT, and BB&T, also return to BB&T Ballpark for the 2017 season. Over the course of the team's fourth season at BB&T Ballpark in 2017, fans can expect 14 thrilling fireworks shows.
