August 3, 2014

(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) - Outfielder Jared Mitchell, a member of Chicago's 40-man roster, has been promoted to the Charlotte Knights today from Double-A Birmingham. Mitchell will take the roster spot of outfielder Blake Tekotte, who was traded to the Arizona organization. In two other roster moves on Sunday, 1B Dan Black, who had the game-winning hit in Friday's game, was assigned to Birmingham, while RHP David Cales was activated off the disabled list and also assigned to Birmingham. Both Black and Cales have already spent time with the Barons this season. Charlotte's roster is currently at 24 active players.

Mitchell, 25, appeared in 53 games for the Charlotte Knights earlier this season and hit .199 with three doubles, 23 runs scored, five home runs, 14 RBIs, and eight stolen bases. The former LSU standout was assigned to Birmingham on June 15 from Charlotte and excelled with the Barons. In 39 games, Mitchell compiled a .299 batting average with 32 runs scored, five doubles, three triples, 10 home runs, 20 RBIs, and four stolen bases. He hit .315 with eight home runs and 16 RBIs in July (27 games).

Tekotte, 27, was hitting .251 with 37 runs scored, 18 doubles, one triple, 11 home runs, and 35 RBIs over 81 games with the Knights this season. The Missouri native hit .236 with 32 runs scored, 27 doubles, three triples, four home runs, 33 RBIs, and 12 stolen bases in 76 games with the Knights last season. He was acquired by the White Sox on November 7, 2012 in a trade with the San Diego Padres for RHP Brandon Kloess.

Black, 27, was hitting .267 with six home runs and 21 RBIs for the Knights in 48 games with the team this season. The Indiana native had a memorable game on May 29 in Columbus when he hit three home runs and drove in seven RBIs. He was injured in that game and placed on the disabled list two days later. He was activated off the Charlotte DL on June 27 and assigned to Birmingham where he hit .292 with three home runs and 13 RBIs over 17 games. He returned to the Knights on July 17.

Cales, 27, started one game for the Knights and allowed four runs on seven hits over four innings on July 26 at Louisville. The Chicago, IL native walked one and struck-out one and was saddled with the loss. He was placed on Charlotte's disabled list on July 28 (retroactive to July 27). He now returns to the Barons where he is 2-0 with one save and a 4.54 ERA in 21 games this season.
