(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- The Charlotte Knights, along with Carolinas HealthCare System and Piedmont Natural Gas, are pleased to announce the names of six recipients of two unique 2017 scholarships for high school students. The Knights once again partnered with two of their founding partners to provide educational funding through the Charlotte Knights Healthcare Scholarship, presented by Carolinas HealthCare System, and the Charlotte Knights STEM Scholarship Program, presented by Piedmont Natural Gas.

The Knights and Carolinas HealthCare System began their partnership in 2013 with the Charlotte Knights Healthcare Scholarship program. In an effort to improve educational funding for high school students who are interested in pursuing a career in health care, the Charlotte Knights and Carolinas HealthCare System are providing three $1,000 college scholarships to local high school seniors in 2017. This year's winners are: Katie Zhao (Ardrey Kell High School), Harrison Walker (Cherryville High School), and Emili Potts (Lake Norman Charter High School). The 2017 Carolinas HealthCare System scholarships will be awarded during an on-field ceremony at BB&T Ballpark on Tuesday, July 25th.

"As a learning organization, Carolinas HealthCare System understands how important it is to develop the talent that will lead future advancements in health care," said Carol Lovin, Executive Vice President of Carolinas HealthCare System. "We are thrilled to partner with the Charlotte Knights and honored to help the next generation lead the way in caring for our community. We look forward to watching Katie, Harrison and Emili pursue their dreams and develop into leaders in their chosen health care fields."

The Knights and Piedmont Natural Gas, who began their partnership four years ago, are also awarding three $1,000 college scholarships to high school seniors from the Charlotte region who plan to attend college and pursue studies in the STEM disciplines of science, technology, engineering or math. This year's winners are: Patrick Girard (Charlotte Christian High School), Josie Rikard (Burns High School), and Preston Daniels (North Mecklenburg High School). The 2017 Piedmont Natural Gas scholarships will be awarded during an on-field ceremony on Thursday, July 27th.

"We are so excited to partner with the Charlotte Knights for a fourth year to provide scholarships for outstanding youths in our community," said Barbara Ashford, director of gas community relations. "Piedmont Natural Gas has long been committed to STEM education, and now as part of Duke Energy, our commitment remains stronger than ever."
