Knights Fall to 'Pigs 4-2 Saturday

(ALLENTOWN, PA) - Rymer Liriano recorded a game-high three hits, but the Charlotte Knights dropped game three of their four-game series against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs by a score of 4-2 on Saturday from Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, PA. The loss snapped Charlotte's two-game winning streak.

(ALLENTOWN, PA) - Rymer Liriano recorded a game-high three hits, but the Charlotte Knights dropped game three of their four-game series against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs by a score of 4-2 on Saturday from Coca-Cola Park in Allentown, PA. The loss snapped Charlotte's two-game winning streak.

Liriano remained red-hot at the plate and paced the Charlotte offense with three hits, including his 13th double of the season. The 26-year-old outfielder, who recently homered in three consecutive games (8/8-8/10), is now hitting .381 (8-for-21) with six runs scored, three home runs, and six RBIs over his last five games.

RHP Chris Volstad (2-9, 5.88) started for the Knights and gave up three runs over five innings pitched. Volstad, who threw 65 pitches on the evening, was charged with the game three loss. He allowed all three of his runs in the bottom of the third inning, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of J.P. Crawford.

Chicago White Sox RHP Dylan Covey made his second rehab appearance with the Knights and allowed just one run on two hits over three innings. He gave up a solo home run in the bottom of the seventh to Herlis Rodriguez.

Former Lehigh Valley infielder/outfielder Cody Asche reached base three times on the night. Asche, who homered against his former club on Friday, went 1-for-3 with two walks on Saturday. Danny Hayes and D.J. Peterson chipped in with two hits apiece. Both the Knights and IronPigs tallied nine hits each in the game three matchup from East Allentown, PA.

Lehigh Valley starter Jake Thompson (5-12, 5.13) earned the win after he allowed just one run on six hits over six innings of work. Reliever Yacksel Ríos recorded the final six outs to notch his first save of the season.

The Knights will conclude their four-game series against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs from Coca-Cola Park on Sunday afternoon.
