LHP Aaron Bummer Promoted to Charlotte

(ROCHESTER, NY) -- LHP Aaron Bummer , who has compiled a 3.00 ERA with 34 strikeouts in 33.0 innings pitched with the Double-A Birmingham Barons in 17 games this season, was promoted to the Charlotte Knights today. Bummer will take the roster spot of outfielder Jason Bourgeois , who was placed on the team's disabled list (retroactive to July 15th). Charlotte's roster features 25 active players at this time.

For the season, the University of Nebraska product is a combined 1-5 with five saves and a 3.48 ERA in 44.0 innings pitched over two levels. He went 0-2 with a 4.91 ERA and two saves in eight games (11.0 innings pitched) with Winston-Salem(High-A) before he was promoted to Birmingham on May 5th. Since then, Bummer has posted a 1-3 mark with three saves and a 3.00 ERA in 17 games with the Barons this year.

Bummer, 23, entered the 2017 season ranked by Baseball America as the 21st prospect in the Chicago White Sox system. The Valencia, CA native was originally drafted by the White Sox in the 19th round of the June 2014 First-Year Player Draft. He was a non-roster invitee to White Sox Spring Training earlier this year.

Bourgeois 35, is hitting .286 (50-for-175) with 18 runs scored, four doubles, one triple, four home runs, 23 RBIs, and three stolen bases in 54 games this season with the Knights. A veteran of 18 minor league seasons, Bourgeois ranks third all-time in Charlotte Knights franchise history in hits with 395. The 2017 season is his fourth with the Charlotte Knights (2007-2008 & 2016-2017).
