(DURHAM, NC) -- RHP Donny Roach was sharp over six shutout innings, Casey Gillaspie had two hits against his former team, and the Charlotte Knights shut out the Durham Bulls by a score of 5-0 on Sunday in the finale of their rain-shortened, three-game series from Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, NC. With the win, the Knights took two of three games in the series against their in-state rivals.

Roach (1-0, 0.00) allowed just two hits over six scoreless innings en route to an impressive victory in his 2018 season debut. The 28-year-old right-hander walked just one batter and struck-out four to earn his first win at the Triple-A level since September 2, 2016. Roach spent the entire 2017 campaign in Korea with the KT Wiz. He was signed by the Chicago White Sox as a free agent on January 24, 2018.

Charlotte's bullpen continued to dominate in relief of Roach. Relievers Xavier Cedeño, Jeanmar Gόmez, and Chris Beck all combined to shut the door on the Bulls over the final three innings. Beck struck-out two batters in the ninth inning to end the game.

Gillaspie, who appeared in 95 games last season with the Bulls before a trade to the Knights, went 2-for-3 against his former 'mates with two runs scored. The 25-year-old slugger recorded at least one hit in each of the three games in Durham and is hitting .400 through his first three games of 2018. DH Daniel Palka extended his hit-streak to 13 games (dating back to August 26, 2017) with a single in the second inning. Outfielder Jacob May and infielder Juan Perez had two hits each to help pace the offense. In their two wins at Durham, the Knights combined to tally 24 hits.

The Knights will now make the trek to Norfolk, VA to open a three-game series against the Norfolk Tides on Monday from Harbor Park. Pre-game radio coverage of Monday's 6:35 p.m. matchup will begin at 6:20 p.m. on 730 The Game ESPN Charlotte and CharlotteKnights.com. The "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call for all of the action. RHP Michael Kopech, the number two prospect in the Chicago White Sox organization, will get the ball for the Knights against Norfolk LHP Jayson Aquino.
