(Eastlake, OH) - The Midwest League and the Lake County Captains, Class-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, announced today that Captains outfielder Will Benson has been named the Midwest League Player of the Week for April 15-21.

Benson made history on Thursday as the first player in Captains history and the fifth in the history of the Midwest League to hit four home runs in a game. The Indians' 2016 first round draft pick went deep in his first four at-bats with a two-run homer in the first inning, a solo home run in the third, a grand slam in the fourth and another solo homer in the sixth. He also tied a Captains record by driving in eight runs in the game.
Benson's four-homer performance was the first in Minor League Baseball since Mike Ford hit four home runs in a game for the Charleston RiverDogs (Class-A, Yankees) in 2014. The Captains' outfielder became the fourth player to hit four home runs in a Midwest League regular season game, joining Garret Jones (2002, Quad Cities), Mike Bishop (1978, Quad Cities) and Bobby Smith (1959, Clinton). Eric Battersby (1999, Burlington) also hit four home runs in a Midwest League playoff game.
The four-home run game added to a week's worth of success at the plate for Benson who hit .444 (8-for-18) with five home runs and 12 RBI. Benson, a 2018 Midwest League All-Star, is the first player to win the Midwest League Player of the Week honor this season.
