UFC Champion Stipe Miocic & Cavaliers Larry O'Brien NBA Championship Trophy Headline Cleveland Sports History Night August 6

(Eastlake, OH) - The Lake County Captains, Class A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, are pleased to announce that Stipe Miocic, UFC Heavyweight Champion of the World, and the Cleveland Cavaliers Larry O'Brien Championship Trophy will be at Classic Park on Saturday, August 6 for Cleveland Sports History Night. 

This year the theme to the 2016 version of Cleveland Sports History night is "Champions Edition" and will feature many area athletes who've won championships along with championship trophies from various teams.

Stipe Miocic, an Eastlake North High School Graduate will sign autographs before the game and toss out a ceremonial first pitch. Miocic made his UFC debut in 2011 and holds a career record of 15-2 including 11 knockouts. Miocic, played collegiate baseball and wrestled for Cleveland State University. On May 14, 2016 he won the heavyweight title by knocking out Fabricio Werdum. On September 10, 2016, in the first ever UFC event in Cleveland, Miocic will defend the championship against Alistair Overeem at Quicken Loans Arena.

The 2016 Cleveland Cavaliers NBA Championship Trophy will also be on hand and available for fans to take pictures with before and during the game. The Cleveland Cavaliers won the 2016 NBA Title, the first professional championship in the three major sports, in the city of Cleveland for over 52 years.

Joining Miocic, will be another list of impressive champions from the northeast Ohio region. Olympic Gold & Silver Medalist Butch Reynolds will be available for autographs as well as former Browns cornerback Hanford Dixon, who began the famous Cleveland Browns "Dawg Pound." Reynolds, an Akron native, held the world record in the 400 meter dash for 11 years and won a silver medal in the 400m during the 1988 Olympics and was part of the USA gold medal-winning 4x400m team. Dixon was a three-time Pro Bowler during his career with the Browns which spanned 1981-1989. 

Three Buckeyes from THE Ohio State University will be in attendance. Dustin Fox, a current on-air personality for 92.3 FM The Fan, and 2002 National Champion for the Buckeyes will be joining J.T. Moore and Steve Miller who were 2014 National Champs for the Buckeyes. Fox grew up in Canton, Ohio and attended Glen Oak High School before playing for the Buckeyes and then professional for three different teams. Steve Miller is known for his key interception return for a touchdown against Alabama in the 2014 College Football Playoffs and J.T. Moore was a contributor to the Buckeyes on both offense and defense during his Buckeye career.

Joe Charboneau, the 1980 American League Rookie of the Year for the Indians, is also schedule to be in attendance. Charboneau hit .289 with 23 Homeruns and 87 RBI for the Tribe in 1980. Otto Orf, the goal keeper for the three-time NPSL Champions the Cleveland Crunch returns to Classic Park and Cleveland Sports History Night. Orf plans on bringing his championship trophy to the ballpark for fans to see and take photos with. Also schedule to appear is Brad Sellers, the current Warrensville Heights mayor, and former #9 overall pick of the Chicago Bulls. Sellers spent parts of eight seasons in the NBA, and also won a professional championship overseas in Greece.

Willoughby native, Michael Hutter, aka TNA Wrestling superstar Ethan Carter III (EC3), will be in attendance for his first Cleveland Sports history Night. EC3 is a two-time TNA World Heavyweight Champion. He attended Willoughby South High School and has worked for the WWE before TNA.

Tiger LaVerde, the Kirtland High School head football coach will also be in attendance. Kirtland became the first public school in Lake County to win a state football championship with the 2011 title. LaVerde and the Hornets have been to five straight championship games and brought home the hardware in 2011, 2013 and 2015.

The Akron Rubber Ducks are sending their 2012 Eastern League Championship trophy to Classic Park for the night and the Captains will also bring out their 2010 Midwest League Championship trophy for display.

There are under 100 Cleveland Sports History Night VIP Packages available. The package includes a ticket to the game, a limited-edition Jobu Bobble Head presented by the Lake Health Foundation, and early entry for autographs.
