Saturday’s game was scoreless until one big swing put the Captains ahead in the top of the fifth. Raynel Delgado singled with one out and Dayton starter Carson Spiers walked Aaron Bracho. Spiers, however, picked Delgado off of second for the second out. With two outs and one aboard, Joe Donovan hooked a two-run homer off the left field foul pole to put the Captains in front, 2-0.

The Captains exploded for five insurance runs in the top of the sixth. Sam Hellinger relieved Spiers and fell behind early. The right-hander walked José Tena to lead off the inning and Micah Pries followed with an RBI double to right. After Hellinger hit George Valera with a pitch, Joe Naranjo ripped a single to center that brought home Pries and sent Valera to third. With the Captains ahead, 4-0, Victor Nova came up and hit a potential double play ball to second base. Victor Ruiz, however, sailed the throw to second base. Valera scored to give the Captains a 5-0 lead, while Nova and Naranjo advanced to second and third on the error.
