Trio of home runs give Captains series opening win

(Eastlake, OH) – Jhonkensy Noel launched two home runs and Joe Donovan added a solo blast in the Lake County Captains (59-50) 6-1 win on Tuesday night over the Dayton Dragons (56-53) at Classic Park.

Dayton leadoff man Jacob Hurtbubise got the Dragons on the board in the first inning. He got hit by a pitch from Lake County starter Kevin Coulter to reach base. He stole second and when Aaron Bracho couldn’t coral the throw to second, Hurtubise raced to third base. With nobody out Quin Cotton hit a ground ball to third that drove in Hurtubise to give the Dragons a 1-0 lead.

The Captains answered to take a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first. José Tena reached on an infield single, then Noel blasted a line drive two-run home run to right field to put Lake County in front.

Donovan added another run for the Captains with their second home run of the game on a solo shot to left field to make it 3-1 Captains in the second inning.

C**hristian Cairo** started the third inning for the Captains with a line drive single through the left side. With one out Noel connected again on a moon shot two-run home run to left field for his second home run of the game to make it 5-1, Lake County.

The Captains added to their lead in the fifth. Dragons starter James Proctor walked Quentin Holmes to begin the inning. Holmes stole second and moved to third when an error by Dayton shortstop Matt McLain put Tena on first. Noel then yanked a double to left that scored Holmes to extend the Captains’ lead to 6-1.

K**evin Coulter** (5-7) earned the win for the Captains after allowing one unearned run over five innings. He allowed two hits with one strikeout.

James Proctor (0-1) took the loss in his second start for the Dragons. He allowed six runs on five hits, including three home runs. He struck out three and walked one.

T**anner Burns** is scheduled to take the mound on Wednesday for Lake County. First pitch between the Captains and Cubs is set for 1:00 at Classic Park.
