LAKE ELSINORE, CA - The Lake Elsinore Storm officially debuted the 2016 California/Carolina League All-Star Game logo today, kicking off a season-long celebration of the midsummer classic.
The logo, which was designed in-house and prominently features the iconic "Storm Eyes," draws inspiration from California culture while paying homage to the 75th year of the California League. Founded in 1941, the league will celebrate its "Diamond" year at The Diamond in Lake Elsinore on June 21.
"Incorporating our Eyes in a way that honors the history of the league was the goal," Assistant GM and Senior Designer Mark Beskid said. "It's more than just the All-Star game this year. To have the opportunity to create something for the league's 75th year was a unique privilege."
2016 will be the 20th meeting - and 18th-consecutive - between the California and Carolina League in a series that began in 1996. The Cal League holds a slight historical advantage, going 9-8-2 all-time and winning three of the last four match-ups.
While the game itself is the marquee event of the celebration, this year's edition will also feature the induction of the inaugural class into the California League Hall of Fame. Some of the greatest stars that have played the game - whose names will be announced in the coming months - will be honored, giving fans in attendance a rare opportunity to see those living legends in person.
"We are honored to host the All Star Game in celebration of the 75th year of the California League," Storm General Manager Raj Narayanan said. "The spirit of the league will be visible throughout the celebration, as we honor all ten teams and their respective cities."
All-Star week will also include a home run derby and skills competition, among other festivities to be announced at a later date.
Fans can join in the celebration with limited edition All-Star game merchandise, which is available now in-store and online HERE. Ticket information will be released soon, which will include details on an All-Star Game mini-plan.
The 23rd season of Storm Baseball at The Diamond begins on April 14. For more, visit stormbaseball.com or connect with the club on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
