LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. - The Storm hosted the I-15 rival Rancho Cucamonga Quakes for a four-game home stand that began on Monday.
Lake Elsinore kicked off their first home series of the second-half against the first-half champion Rancho Cucamonga Quakes as both teams split the four games. Monday's game offered an early offensive display by the Storm as they struck for a solo run in each of the first three innings. The party started with a leadoff homerun in the 1st inning by All-Star outfielder Buddy Reed, which was his 11th big fly of the season. The Eyes added another run in the 2nd inning on an RBI Single by Marcus Greene Jr. that clanked off the right-field wall, then one more for good measure in the 3rd inning on All-Star Edward Olivares' 17th double of the season that drove in Buddy Reed. Starter Chris Paddack continued his dominance on the mound as he struck out 9 batters in 4 innings pitched, while lowering his ERA to just 1.75. When all was said and done, Lake Elsinore completed their 5th shutout of the season by the final of 3-0.
On a Fiesta Tuesday, the homerun ball was alive and well, but for the visiting Rancho Cucamonga Quakes. The Dodger blue bats, greeted newcomer Angel Acevedo and Steven Wilson with homers by Christian Santana (2), Cody Thomas and Logan Landon. With a 6-0 lead, the combination of Isaac Anderson, Ryan Moseley, Nolan Long and Jason Richman, they sliced and diced the Storm batting order on their way to a 6-0 Quakes win. For the Storm, this was the 7th time they had fallen victim to a shutout against an opposing team this season.
It was a quick turnaround for both ball clubs as an 11AM game was on the horizon Wednesday morning. For the second time in three games, a pitching duel found its way to The Diamond. Padres #5 Prospect Michel Baez and Dodgers #10 Prospect Dustin May each delivered quality starts as the game went scoreless through 8 innings. But as Dauris Valdez entered the game in the 9th, the Quakes found a way the break the scoreless tie and drive in 5 unanswered runs for yet another 9th inning rally. The Storm bats continues to stay dormant as the Quakes took game three of this series by the final of 5-0.
On the final game of the homestand, it was yet another pitchers duel that graced its presents at Pete Lehr Field during a Big Lebowski celebration. Quakes Starter Parker Curry and Storm starter Ronald Bolaños went toe-to-toe for 5 innings until an RBI Single by Rancho Cucamonga third baseman Christian Santana scores Cody Thomas for the lone run of the game. The Storm were only able to muster two hits as the scoreless streak escalates to 32 innings with the Quakes attaining a 1-0 win. The Dodgers affiliate takes three of four during this series and runs their head-to-head record against the Eyes to 14-8.
The Storm will head out for a 5-game road trip this weekend at John Thurman Field against the Seattle Mariners affiliate Modesto Nuts before coming home for a season-long 9-game homestand beginning on the 4th of July!
