The Lakeland Flying Tigers held on to defeat the Palm Beach Cardinals 7-6 Tuesday night behind two home runs from Dylan Burdeaux, who had a career high 5 RBIs. Lakeland broke the game open early in the first inning with an RBI double from Isaac Paredes and the first of Burdeaux's blasts, a three-run shot. His second round-tripper catalyzed a three-run fourth that pushed the Flying Tigers to a commanding 7-0 lead. All 7 runs were scored off Palm Beach starter Ian Oxnevad, who fell to 3-4 with the loss.
Palm Beach finally got on the board in the fifth with an RBI triple from Chase Pinder. Trailing 7-3 in the seventh, Shane Billings smashed a two-run double that propelled the Cardinals to within one. Lakeland native Drew Carlton stopped the bleeding and shut the door, tossing two scoreless innings to earn his 3rd save of the year.
Austin Sodders moved to 3-2 with the win after allowing two runs in five innings of work, lowering his season ERA to 4.05.
Up Next: The Flying Tigers send right-hander Anthony Castro (2-2, 3.82 ERA) to the hill to take on Casey Meisner (2-1, 2.25 ERA) at 6:30 p.m. in the rubber match of a three-game set. Castro looks to build upon his last two starts in which he allowed just 3 runs over 11 innings.
