Jones Leads Claws to 16th Shutout and 2-0 Saturday Win

COLUMBIA, SC - Damon Jones threw six scoreless innings and Zach Warren got the last six outs as the BlueClaws completed their 16th shutout of the year in a 2-0 win over Columbia on Saturday night at Spirit Communications Park.
Jones (7-2) gave up five hits with three strikeouts over six innings. Andrew Brown came on for a 1-2-3 seventh and Warren struck out Hansel Moreno as the tying run to end the game and earn his second save. The BlueClaws have thrown 16 shutouts this year, six off their franchise record set last year and lead the minors with a team ERA of 2.59.
The BlueClaws (2-1/43-49) took two of three in the series from Columbia (1-2/35-35), the first series of the second half.
Lakewood opened the scoring in the second inning on an RBI single from Josh Stephen.
The second-inning run was the only one allowed by Fireflies starter Joe Cavallaro (7-2), who came out with two outs in the sixth inning.
The BlueClaws extended the lead in the eighth inning on a two-out opposite field RBI triple for Quincy Nieporte off Taylor Henry. Nieporte, who picked up his seventh hit in the series, brought home Colby Fitch to put the BlueClaws up 2-0.
Fitch had two hits and scored both BlueClaws runs in the win, which was their ninth win in their last 12 games.
The BlueClaws head to West Virginia to open a three-game series with the Power (Pirates) on Sunday at 4:05 pm. LHP David Parkinson (6-1) starts for Lakewood opposite RHP Gavin Wallace (5-1).
