In honor of National Women in Sports Day (February 6th), the BlueClaws would like to highlight the outstanding female employees on our staff.
JoAnne Bell is in her 6th season as the BlueClaws Front Office Manager. JoAnne is in charge of everything related to making the office run smoothly. In addition, she helps with BlueClaws Charities events and the BlueClaws community relations efforts, and host family program.
"Working in baseball is a dream come true for me. Being a fan of the game since I was nine years old," she said. "Watching the game and now working in the back side of it, watching fans faces at either the game or theme nights, to watching the players develop and move on is the most exciting part and sad part at the same time. I wish I had started earlier in my life here."
Kirsten Boye enters her fifth season as the BlueClaws Director of Production. Kirsten is responsible for all BlueClaws graphic design, including all print pieces and advertisements, plus the in-park production and show seen by fans at all 70 games. She also serves as a Mentor in Minor League Baseball's LIFT (Leaders Inspiring Future Talent) program through their Women in Baseball initiative.
"I'm happy to be a part of the growing community of professional women in baseball. I hope we as a group continue to grow and make a lasting impact both professionally and personally," she said.
Annette Clark will start her 15th season with the BlueClaws this year. Currently the Accounting and Human Resources Manager, her responsibilities include payables, receivables, payroll and all human resources for the team. Annette previously served as a buyer for a national jewelry chain.
"I love that the front office is my second family with a lively and fun atmosphere. But the thing I enjoy the most is game day when you can feel the energy and excitement from our fans all around the ballpark," she said.
Lindsay Cometz joined the BlueClaws as a Production Assistant in 2018 and was hired full-time as the team's Social Media Manager in September. A Villanova graduate, she is responsible for all BlueClaws social media content, including content strategy, graphics, and videos.
"I have always wanted to combine my passion of sports and media in my career and working for the BlueClaws allows me to do just that," she said. "Although it can be a lot of work, it is really fun working in a game day atmosphere every day and being part of making all the magic happen for our fans."
Kathryn Raso is entering her 3rd season with the BlueClaws. Kathryn joined the BlueClaws staff on the food and beverage team in 2017 as the Director of Concessions. She is responsible for staffing and maintaining all aspects of the food and beverage department on the concourse level. Her main goal is to ensure that each and every fan has an enjoyable food and beverage experience while providing the highest standards of excellence. In her time away from work, Kathryn stays active with her home-based business Pink Zebra, as a volunteer for the Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore for the past 5 years, and a soccer coach for the Toms River Futbol Club (TRFC).
"Just walking through the entrance at FirstEnergy park you get a sense of family and sense of community," she said. "It is such a rush to be part of a larger team, to watch the excitement of the fans as each game is played. I hope all young women can grow up to be involved in organizations such as ours which provide fulfilling experiences and a sense of accomplishment after every game!"
Arielle Roth joined the BlueClaws in March as Partnership Services Assistant and was hired full-time for the 2019 season. As part of her job, Arielle coordinates the relationship between BlueClaws corporate partners and the team. This includes work on proposals and fulfillment initiatives. She graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Communications and Sport Management.
"I've always wanted to work in sports, and this has been a great way to start my career," said Roth. "Being able to see all of the work you put in come together during a game is the best part of the job."
Jess Szewczyk joined the BlueClaws in January as the team's new Creative Services Assistant. A graduate of Georgian Court University with a degree in digital design, Jess will assist the BlueClaws Marketing, Promotions, and Production Departments with a variety of projects throughout the year.
"I never really envisioned myself working in sports, but I've loved every minute so far," she said. "I can't wait to bring Girl Power to baseball this summer!"
Jamie Stone began her career with the BlueClaws in 2011 and returned in 2014. She is now the team's Director of Marketing & Promotions, responsible for setting the BlueClaws Theme Night schedule. Additionally, Jamie is in charge of enhancing the fan experience at games through on-field promotions, character appearances, special-themed events, and much more. She was named a "Phenomenal Woman Under 40" by the Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore in 2017.
'We have an incredible group of women that work here and I am honored to be working beside such talented ladies everyday," she said. "It's refreshing to see more and more women around the country in all levels of the sports industry. I am a cheerleader for women in baseball - the sky is the limit!"
