LAKEWOOD, NJ - Jacob Rhinesmith and Phil Caulfield each hit three runs home runs as Hagerstown topped the BlueClaws 10-5 on Sunday afternoon at FirstEnergy Park.
The Suns (9-14/39-54) swept the three-game series from the BlueClaws (7-15/36-56), who have dropped four in a row and fell to 20-games under .500 for the first time this season.
Rhinesmith hit a three-run home run, his sixth homer of the season, in the first inning off Victor Santos. The Suns added a fourth run off Santos in the second on a bloop double to center from Armand Upshaw.
Santos (4-7) gave up four runs over five innings and took the loss.
The BlueClaws inched back in the game. Yerwin Trejo hit his first US home run in the fifth inning to pull Lakewood within 4-1. Then in the sixth off Ryan Williamson, Carlos De La Cruz tripled home Luis Garcia to cut the lead to 4-2.
However, the Suns opened the lead back up in the seventh on a three-run home run by Phil Caulfield, his first of the season. They added three more in the eighth for the final margin. Caulfield finished the game 2-4 with four RBIs.
BlueClaws reliever Francisco Morales was charged with five runs in 2.1 innings.
Rafael Marchan had two hits including a two-run single in the ninth inning for the BlueClaws. Suns starter Joan Adon (7-3) gave up one run over five innings to earn the win.
Lakewood heads to Delmarva on Monday to open a three-game series with the Shorebirds and they return home on Tuesday, July 23rd.
