SALISBURY, MD - Five BlueClaws had mutli-hit games while Zach Warren got the last nine outs as the BlueClaws came back to top Delmarva 8-3 on Saturday night at Perdue Stadium.
Dalton Guthrie added his third home run while Jhailyn Ortiz had two hits and scored three times for the BlueClaws (26-21) who got back to a season-high five-games over .500 with the win. Lakewood and Delmarva (29-18) have now split the first two games of their five-game series.
Trailing 3-1, the BlueClaws came back to tie the game in the fifth, getting two-out RBI singles by Quincy Nieporte and Colby Fitch. The rally started with two out and none on a Nick Maton infield single before Jhailyn Ortiz singled to set up Nieporte.
Lakewood took the lead in the sixth when Brandon Becker made an error on a grounder hit by Yahir Gurrola, allowing Dalton Guthrie to score the go-ahead run.
The BlueClaws added three off reliever Alex Katz. In the seventh, Gregori Rivero's RBI triple put Lakewood up 5-3. In the eighth, Quincy Nieporte hit an RBI double and Colby Fitch a SAC fly for a 7-3 Lakewood lead. Nick Maton had a 13-pitch at bat, drawing a walk, to help key the rally.
Dalton Guthrie added his third home run of the year in the top of the ninth.
Meanwhile, Andrew Brown (1-0), who was making his BlueClaws debut, gave up one run over five innings in relief to earn the win. Brown came on in the second inning for Spencer Howard, who gave up two runs in a 39-pitch opening frame.
Warren then relieved Brown and retired nine of the 10 hitters he faced for his first professional save. Nick Vespi (0-2) took the loss for Delmarva after starter Brennan Hanifee gave up three runs in 4.2 innings of work.
Ortiz, who had two hits and scored three times, was one of five BlueClaws with multi-hit games, joining Jake Scheiner, Nieporte, Guthrie, and Daniel Brito.
The teams continue their series on Sunday with a double-header beginning at 1:05 as they make up a game rained out in Lakewood on April 15th. LHP Damon Jones starts the opener for the BlueClaws opposite LHP DL Hall.
