Outfielder matches season-highs with four RBI and four hits

LANCASTER, Calif. - The Lancaster JetHawks once again jumped out to an early lead over Modesto as they took down the Nuts, 7-2, on Thursday night at The Hangar. Vince Fernandez led the charge offensively, driving in four runs on four hits for Lancaster.

LANCASTER, Calif. - The Lancaster JetHawks once again jumped out to an early lead over Modesto as they took down the Nuts, 7-2, on Thursday night at The Hangar. Vince Fernandez led the charge offensively, driving in four runs on four hits for Lancaster.

Lancaster (9-6, 42-43) scored first in the opening inning. With two outs, Colton Welker doubled and Fernandez followed with an RBI single.
That was just the start of a big night for Fernandez. In the third inning, the JetHawks scored four times on six hits. After a Colton Welker RBI single, Fernandez brought home a run with a double. Tyler Nevin capped off the rally with a two-run single. The JetHawks had six-straight hits in the inning.
In the fourth inning, Fernandez came up with two on and two out. He ripped a double to plate both men on base, giving Lancaster a 7-1 lead. Fernandez finished the night 4-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI. The four hits and four RBI both matched season-highs for the All-Star.
Brandon Gold (6-5) gave up just two runs in six innings for Lancaster to earn the win. Modesto's Darren McCaughan (4-6) took the loss, allowing seven runs on 11 hits in six innings.
Lancaster is now 9-6 in the Second Half and a game below .500 overall. The JetHawks have won eight of ten against Modesto, and the team is 22-16 against the North Division.
The JetHawks go for the series win Friday night. Lefty Ty Culbreth (4-3) goes for Lancaster against Modesto's Ashton Goudeau (0-0). The first 1,000 fans to The Hangar will take home a patriotic hat, and there are postgame fireworks. First pitch is at 6:35 pm.
