LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. - The JetHawks battled to beat the Lake Elsinore Storm, 10-7, in 11 innings to snap a four-game skid on Thursday night at The Diamond.
Lancaster (23-24) took advantage of four Storm (21-26) errors, three of which came in extra-innings, to grind out a series-ending victory. With the win, the JetHawks ended their season-long losing streak, avoided a sweep and stayed within one game of first place in the South Division.
The JetHawks scored three unearned runs in the top of the 11th inning, and Reid Humphreys shut the door by retiring all three batters he faced in the bottom of the inning to pick up his league-leading 11th save.
Joel Diaz scored the game-winner when pitcher Austin Smith (0-2) fielded Jacob Bosiokovic's sac-bunt and threw the ball into left-field foul territory.
Lancaster had scored five unanswered runs earlier in the game to take a 5-3 lead, but an error in the sixth inning led to three Storm runs against starter Matt Dennis. The right-hander wound up allowing six runs (three earned) on eight hits with seven strikeouts.
The JetHawks scored an unearned run in the seventh inning to tie the game. In total, the game featured eight unearned runs, four for each club.
Heath Holder (4-0) tossed two innings of hitless relief to earn the win.
Manny Melendez totaled four hits and three RBI in the game. Roberto Ramos added three hits including a double.
The JetHawks return home for a seven-game homestand beginning Friday night. They welcome the Stockton Ports to The Hangar for the start of a three-game series. Logan Longwith is due to start the opener opposite Parker Dunshee. First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
