Serven homers twice, 'Hawks roll over Sixers

Eleven-run win Friday is Lancaster's largest of the season

LANCASTER, Calif. - The Lancaster JetHawks scored early and often Friday night, beating the Inland Empire 66ers, 15-4, at The Hangar. Brian Serven homered twice, and the 11-run margin of victory was Lancaster's biggest of 2018.

LANCASTER, Calif. - The Lancaster JetHawks scored early and often Friday night, beating the Inland Empire 66ers, 15-4, at The Hangar. Brian Serven homered twice, and the 11-run margin of victory was Lancaster's biggest of 2018.

Lancaster (2-0, 35-37) got on the board in the second inning with the first of Serven's two home runs. The catcher extended his hitting streak to 11 games.
The JetHawks poured it on with six runs in the third. Inland Empire's Nate Bertness (1-5) couldn't get out of the inning, and was charged with seven runs in 2.2 innings. Lancaster sent 11 men to the plate scoring six runs on five hits.
That was the first of two six-run innings for Lancaster Friday. Inland Empire (0-2, 33-39) scored three in the top of the fifth, but the JetHawks answered with a half-dozen in the bottom of the inning. Brian Serven added another home run to make it 13-3.
David Hill (2-2) allowed three runs in six innings to earn the win. On offense, Manny Melendez and Steven Linkous each drove in three runs. Eight of nine Lancaster starters had a hit in the game, led by Linkous and Alan Trejo with three.  
Lancaster won two games in the First Half by ten runs, but Friday's win was the team's biggest of the season. The JetHawks are 2-0 in the Second Half, and 35-37 overall.  
The JetHawks will try to make it three wins in a row Saturday night. Matt Dennis (4-7) takes the hill for Lancaster against Inland Empire's Jeremy Beasley (2-1). World Cup weekend continues with the first 1,000 fans getting a JetHawks soccer jersey. First pitch from The Hangar is at 6:05 pm.
