LANSING, Mich. - Hector Yan allowed an unearned run in the first inning and nothing more, as the Burlington Bees (12-15, 51-46) defeated the Lansing Lugnuts (14-13, 46-50), 7-2, on Friday night at Cooley Law School Stadium.
The visiting Bees took two of three games in the series - the sixth straight series that the Bees have won at Lansing dating back to 2008.
Johnny Aiello , Gabriel Moreno and Otto Lopez each doubled for the Lugnuts in the loss, with Aiello extending his on-base streak to 19 games - but those doubles accounted for 75% of the Nuts' total hits against Yan (Win, 4-3) and two relievers.
Moreno gave the Nuts a quick 1-0 lead, doubling with one out in the first inning, moving to third on a Griffin Conine deep flyout to center, and scoring on a two-out throwing error by shortstop Alvaro Rubalcaba.
The Bees responded with seven unanswered runs, plating four in the third inning on three hits and two walks against starter Fitz Stadler (Loss, 2-6), adding solo home runs against reliever Juan Nuñez by Jordyn Adams in the fifth inning and Nonie Williams in the sixth, and finishing with a final touch of insurance against Joey Puliedo in the ninth on an RBI single by Spencer Griffin.
Meanwhile, Yan was holding the Lugnuts at bay, striking out seven batters in six innings while allowing only two hits and one walk.
Mayky Perez pitched a perfect seventh and eighth, before Austin Krzeminski gave up a run on a two-out Aiello double, walks to DJ Neal and Rafael Lantigua , and a Jake Brodt RBI single in the ninth.
The second half of the Lugnuts' six-game homestand sees the Miami Marlins-affiliated Clinton LumberKings arrive for a three-game series from Saturday through Monday.
On Saturday night at 7:05 p.m., 18-year-old prospect right-hander Eric Pardinho (1.93 ERA) opens the series against LumberKings right-hander Josh Roberson (1.26). Gates open at 6 p.m. on Tribute to Burt Reynolds Night , with a "Born In Lansing" Burt Reynolds Bobblehead giveaway for the first 1,000 fans, special Smokey & the Bandit-inspired Lugnuts jerseys, a "Best Mustache" Contest and much more.
