(Las Vegas, NV) – September 24, 2021 – The Las Vegas Aviators® professional baseball team, Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics, announced today the 2021 season awards for the players. The Las Vegas franchise has been a member of the Pacific Coast League for 38 years (1983-2020) and one season with Triple-A West (2021 – present).

Aviators President/COO Don Logan announced the following awards: Mayor’s Trophy: catcher/infielder/outfielder Carlos Pérez; Most Valuable Player: catcher/infielder/outfielder Carlos Pérez; Most Valuable Pitcher: Right-hander Ben Bracewell.

The Mayor’s Trophy has been given annually since 1983 and is voted on by the fans. The previous winners of the Mayor’s Trophy:

Carlos Pérez (Mayor’s Trophy & Most Valuable Player): He has played multiple positions (catcher, first base, left field) and has appeared in 92 games and is batting .267 (96-for-359) with 18 doubles, triple, 30 home runs (leads Triple-A West), 85 RBI (leads Triple-A West). He ranks 3rd in Triple-A West in total bases (206); ranks T-4th in Triple-A West with 49 extra-base hits; ranks 5th in Triple-A West in slugging percentage (.574). He was twice named Triple-A West Player of the Week (August 16-22 & August 30 – September 5). He has hit 20 of his 30 home runs on the road (home: 10 HR, 40 RBI; away: 20 HR, 45 RBI).

Pérez is also the team leader with three grand slams (July 4, 10, 25). Brooks Conrad (2015) is the last Las Vegas player to hit three grand slams in one season and the franchise leader in grand slams is Brian Myrow (2004-05) with four.

He is tied for the team lead with 29 multiple-hit games (25 two-hit games; 3 three-hit; 1 five-hit game) and has hit safely in 61 of 92 games. He compiled a season-high eight-game hitting streak (June 12-26) and batted .342 (13-for-38) over that stretch.

Top Series include: Batted .467 (7-for-15), 4 RBI vs. Reno (June 10-15); batted .526 (10-for-19), 2 HR, 11 RBI vs. Sacramento (July 1-6); batted .364 (8-for-22) vs. Salt Lake (August 5-10); batted .476 (10-for-21), 3 HR, 7 RBI vs. Albuquerque (August 19-24); batted .318 (7-for-22), 4 HR, 9 RBI at Oklahoma City (August 26-31); batted .308 (8-for-26), 3 HR, 5 RBI at Sugar Land (Sept. 2-7).

Month of July: 26 games, .269 (29-for-108), 12 HR, 31 RBI; Month of August: 24 games, .333 (30-for-90), 11 HR, 31 RBI.

Top performances:

3-for-5, three runs scored, HR, 2 RBI vs. Reno (June 14); 2-for-3, three walks, grand slam vs. Sacramento (July 4); 5-for-5, double, HR, 4 RBI vs. Sacramento (July 6); 2-for-5, walk, grand slam in 10th inning at Reno (July 10); 2-for-5, two home runs, 3 RBI vs. El Paso (July 16); 2-for-3, double, HBP, HR, 3 RBI at Salt Lake (July 27); 3-for-5, double, RBI, run scored vs. Salt Lake (August 9); 3-for-5, 2 HR, 3 RBI, three runs scored vs. Albuquerque (August 20); 2-for-4, HBP, 2 RBI at Oklahoma City (August 29); 2-for-5, 2 HR, 3 RBI at Oklahoma City (August 31); 2-for-5, two-run HR in 9th inning at Sugar Land (September 4); 2-for-3, two walks, two-run HR at Sugar Land (September 5); 2-for-4, double, HR, 4 RBI at Sacramento (September 16).

Ben Bracewell (Most Valuable Pitcher): The right-hander ranks 3rd in Triple-A West with 47 appearances and has accounted for 10 victories this season. Bracewell has posted a 5-3 record with five saves (six opportunities) with a 3.90 ERA. He has allowed 71 hits and has struck out 55 batters in 57.2 innings pitched.

He has posted victories against Sacramento (May 8), Tacoma (August 3), Albuquerque (August 20 & 23) and Sugar Land (September 7). He posted saves against Oklahoma City (August 28 & 30), Sugar Land (September 4) and Sacramento (September 16 & 20).

In the month of July: Appeared in 10 games and recorded a 0.63 ERA and allowed 10 hits and struck out 14 batters in 14.1 innings pitched; opponent batting average of .200. August: Appeared in 13 games and posted a 3-0 record with two saves and a 2.60 ERA. He allowed 19 hits and struck out 12 batters in 17.1 innings pitched.

Bracewell allowed no runs in 31 of his 47 appearances and has allowed 6-of-21 inherited runners to score for 29 percent.

He also recorded nine straight appearances of no runs allowed from June 27 – July 24.

The most valuable player and most valuable pitcher were chosen by the Aviators coaching staff.

The Aviators, under manager Fran Riordan, hosts the Oklahoma City Dodgers, Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, in the final homestand of the season through Monday, September 27 at Las Vegas Ballpark.
