(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) The Lexington Legends have added a few more "guests" for their third annual Winter Bash January 19.
The Winter Bash, which will serve as a fundraiser for the Kentucky and Southern Indiana chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, offers an evening of fun, food and drinks in the Kentucky Ale Taproom at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. A silent auction will include items contributed by the Legends' new major league affiliate, the Kansas City Royals, and more. The Legends will play their first season as a Royals affiliate in 2013.
In the last few days, several new items have been added to the auction, including:
-the Ultimate Kentucky Sports Fan Package, donated by Whitaker Bank, including autographs of several former University of Kentucky basketball players and tickets to a UK basketball game later this season
-A Chick-Fil-A gift basket
- a McDonald's gift pack
-a luxury suite at Whitaker Bank Ballpark for a 2013 Legends home game.
-gift cards from a variety of restaurants and local businesses
Several other items will be added. The silent auction already included a George Brett jersey signed by the baseball Hall of Famer, who is now vice president of baseball operations for the Royals. A baseball signed by Brett also will be in the auction, as will jerseys, bats and batting helmets signed by current Royals Billy Butler, Eric Hosmer and Mike Moustakas, and a baseball and bat signed by the Royals' Alex Gordon.
Legends manager Brian Buchanan and Royals director of minor league operations Scott Sharp will be special guests for the event, which begins at 7 p.m. and continues until midnight. Buchanan, a former major league player, is in his third year as a manager in the Royals organization. Sharp joined the organization as assistant director of player development in 2006 and has served in his current position since August of 2008.
Television screens throughout the Kentucky Ale Taproom will allow guests to follow Kentucky's basketball game at Auburn. The game begins at 9 p.m.
Tickets are $50 per person. Heavy hors d'oeuvres will be available, and an open bar, sponsored by Kentucky Ale, will feature a variety of beers and wine.
Tickets to Winter Bash may be obtained by calling Sarah Bosso at (859) 422-7855, the Legends' box office at (859) 422-7867, or by going online to www.lexingtonlegends.com.
