(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) Fred Ford's three-run homer capped a four-run rally for Lexington in the bottom of the third inning, and the Legends went on to beat the Greenville Drive 6-3 Saturday night.
Greenville took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third. The Drive loaded the bases with no outs on base hits by Nick Moore and Jordan Weems and a bunt single by Jose Vinicio. Mookie Betts lined a single to left field, scoring Moore. Cody Koback's single brought home another run. After Boss Moanaroa struck out, Aneury Tavarez grounded out, scoring Vinicio with the third run.
The Legends answered in the bottom of the third. With one out, Raul Mondesi and Humberto Arteaga walked. Cam Gallagher popped out to first base, but Michael Antonio singled to right field, scoring Mondesi. Ford then followed with a 400-foot blast off the scoreboard in right center field, putting the Legends in front 4-3.
Scott Alexander (1-0), who relieved Legends starter Colin Rodgers with two outs in the fourth, pitched four and one-third scoreless innings. He walked one and struck out five.
The Legends added a run in the seventh. They loaded the bases when Terrence Gore was hit by a pitch, and Ethan Chapman and Mondesi followed with bunt singles. Gallagher's ground out scored Gore from third.
Lexington scored its final run in the eighth on a walk to Jin-Ho Shin and a double by Gore.
Greenville starter Frank Montas (0-1) was the losing pitcher. He worked the first two and two-thirds innings and was charged with four runs on two hits.
Mark Peterson pitched a scoreless ninth for Lexington and picked up his second save of the season.
Greenville has won two out of three in the series, which concludes Sunday. Game time at Whitaker Bank Ballpark is 1:35 p.m.
