WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK (Lexington, KY) - One year after being introduced, Lexington Legends caps featuring the team's mustache logo have been sold to customers in all 50 states.
A recent order from Montana gave the mustache cap a sweep of the nation. In all, 574 mustache caps were sold during the 2013 season, and 275 more were ordered by retailers.
To celebrate the 50-state sales mark, the Legends are inviting fans to upload photos of themselves with the cap to the Legends Facebook page, Instagram or Twitter, using #MustacheNation. From those, a winner will be selected to receive a Legends prize pack and a photo feature on the Legends official Facebook page.
More information is available on the Legends website.
The Legends unveiled new logos and new uniforms October 25, 2012 at a special event in downtown Lexington. The mustache stands alone as the Legends logo on caps worn by Legends players in most road games and a few home games in 2013. While the mustache cap was new, the 'stache itself has been an important part of the Legends look since mascot Big L and his handlebar mustache were introduced before the team began operations in 2001.
The mustache cap has been the subject of many media reports, including a story that appeared on the front page of yahoo.com as part of the Yahoo Sports blog "Big League Stew." Cbssports.com and milb.com (Minor League Baseball's official website) also featured the cap, and an honorable mention was received from Ballpark Digest for 2013 Logo/Branding of the Year.
"The mustache cap has created a lot of excitement," said Legends President/COO Andy Shea. "It has made connections for the Legends all across the country, and we're going to build on that, starting with our fans' photos."
