Pigs take opener in Moosic

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs evened up the Iron Rail Rivalry on Tuesday in Moosic with a 7-5 victory against the RailRiders. Plating three runs in the first and third innings, the Pigs jumped out to the early lead at PNC Field. Brandon Leibrandt (3-0) provided three innings of relief and earned the victory. 

Trevor Plouffe drove in four of the seven runs for the Pigs. With the Pigs leading by one in the top of the third, Plouffe double off of starter Chance Adams (2-3) to score three runs and give the Pigs a 6-2 lead. The IronPigs would add one more insurance run in the fifth on a throwing error by catcher Kyle Higashioka. 
Collin Cowgill singled twice in the ball game and scored a pair of runs for the Pigs. The top five hitters in the lineup all scored runs for Lehigh Valley and combined to record six walks. 
Enyel De Los Santos went four innings and did not earn a decision. Allowing five hits and two runs, De Los Santos struck out four in the outing. Brandon Leibrandt provided three scoreless innings of relief and struck out two on the way to his third victory. Pedron Beato faced a pair of batters in the ninth and allowed one hit but recorded the final out of the game to earn his 18 save. 
The Pigs and Railriders resume their three-game set tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. Ben Lively goes for his third win against Josh Rogers. 
The Pigs return home next Monday against the same RailRiders. The four-game series will feature Little League Night, two youth giveaways and #LVWantsLeBron Night on June 28. Find out more about the upcoming homestand here
