Pigs top Toledo in homestand opener

Victory ends Lehigh Valley's five-game slide

The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (48-51) ended a five-game losing streak by beating the Toledo Mud Hens (45-56) 5-3 on Tuesday night. The IronPigs are now 2-3 against the Mud Hens this season.

Victor Reyes hit a solo home run off Ramon Rosso in the top of the second inning to give the Mud Hens a 1-0 lead. Lehigh Valley tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning. Shane Robinson hit an RBI single off Tim Adleman to score Jan Hernandez with two outs.
The Pigs scored a run in the bottom of the third inning against Adleman to take a 2-1 lead. Deivy Grullon hit an RBI single with two outs to score Ali Castillo. Lehigh Valley extended their lead to 3-1 off Adleman in the bottom of the fifth inning as Castillo hit an RBI single to score Malquin Canelo. The single for Castillo extended his hitting streak to six games.
Rosso allowed just one run off four hits and one walk with five strikeouts in six innings. JD Hammer entered the game to pitch for Lehigh Valley in the top of the seventh inning. He would be making his first appearance for the Pigs for the first time since May.
Toledo tied the game at 3-3 against Hammer in the inning as Jake Rogers hit a two-run home run with one out. Hammer would pitch just one inning before handing the ball to Austin Davis. Davis pitched just 2/3's of an inning in the eighth before Edgar Garcia (2-1) came in the game to pitch.
The IronPigs would jump ahead 5-3 in the bottom of the eighth inning as Castillo and Austin Listi both scored on wild pitches by Austin Adams (1-3). Garcia retired the side in the top of the ninth inning to secure the win for Lehigh Valley.
The Pigs and Mud Hens meet again on Wednesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
