Gushue’s Double Wins Game for Rochester

Game-winning hit occurs after Pigs tie the game in the top of the 9th

(Rochester, NY) – Rochester Red Wings (25-14) Taylor Gushue provided the excitement in the bottom of the ninth inning as he hit a walk-off RBI double against Damon Jones (0-1) to give Rochester a 10-9 win over the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (21-18) on Thursday afternoon. The game began after a one hour and six-minute rain delay.

Joey Meneses led off the bottom of the ninth inning with a walk. He was removed from the game for pinch-runner, Matt Lipka. Meneses finished the day 4-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, three runs scored, and one walk. Darick Hall tied the game at 9-9 in the top of the ninth inning against Jordan Weems (2-1) as he hit a two-run home run. The home run was his 14th of the season and matched his season total from 2021.

The game was tied 6-6 after two innings, as both teams scored four runs in the first inning and two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Matt Vierling led off the game with a home run against Jefry Rodriguez. Nick Maton hit his first triple of the season against Rodriguez in the top of the first inning. James Marvel struggled throughout the afternoon as he allowed six runs through three innings and gave up nine hits. He did pitch a scoreless bottom of the third inning.

Dalton Guthrie did give Lehigh Valley a 7-6 lead in the top of the third inning as he hit an RBI single against Rodriguez.

Every IronPigs hitter not only reached base but recorded at least one hit throughout the afternoon. Vierling also stole two bases in the game where as Scott Kingery and John Andreoli each stole a base. The Pigs and Red Wings combined for 19 runs scored, 29 hits, and four errors.

The IronPigs and Red Wings will continue their series on Friday evening at Frontier Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
