’Pigs matched a season high with four home runs in the game

(Syracuse, NY) – The Syracuse Mets (31-43) rallied on Thursday evening against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (40-35) as they won 7-6 in 10 innings. The Mets forced extra innings after scoring four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to eventually win on a walk-off walk by Kramer Robertson against Nick Duron (2-4).

Will Toffey gave Lehigh Valley a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning as he hit a two-run home run against Trevor Cahill. The home run was Toffey’s third home run of the season. Mark Vientos hit a solo home run against Kent Emanuel in the bottom of the first inning to trim the ‘Pigs lead to 2-1. The home run for Vientos was his 13th of the season.

Jorge Bonifacio extended Lehigh Valley’s lead to 4-1 against Cahill in the top of the third inning as he hit a two-run home run. The home run for Bonifacio was his eighth of the season. Edgar Cabral hit a home run against Cahill in the top of the fourth inning to give the ‘Pigs a 5-1 lead. The home run for Cabral was his second home run of the season.

Cahill left the game after 3 2/3 innings pitched. Alex Claudio entered the game to pitch in relief and pitched 1 1/3 innings. Daniel Robertson hit a home run against Claudio in the top of the fifth inning, his second as an IronPig, that gave Lehigh Valley a 6-1 lead.

Emanuel allowed just one run over six innings pitched in his major league rehab start, courtesy of Good Shepherd. The Mets scored a run against Braeden Ogle in the bottom of the seventh inning to cut Lehigh Valley’s lead to 6-2 as Nick Meyer hit an RBI single that scored Johneshwy Fargas.

Syracuse scored four runs against Zach Warren in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the game at 6-6. Nick Plummer scored on a hit-by-pitch for the first run of the inning. Vientos scored on a bases-loaded walk and Meyer hit a two-run double. Jonathan Hennigan was charged with a blown save. Eric Orze (2-2) earned the win for the Mets by striking out two batters in one inning pitched.

The IronPigs and Mets will continue their series on Saturday evening at NBT Bank Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
