Plassmeyer dominant performance leads ‘Pigs to Win

Plassmeyer recorded a career – high 11 strikeouts against Syracuse

(Allentown, PA) – Michael Plassmeyer (3-2) turned in his best outing of the season on Wednesday evening as he guided the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (56-45) to a 6-1 win over the Syracuse Mets (45-56). Plassmeyer recorded a career-high 11 strikeouts over seven innings pitched.

In addition to Plassmeyer’s outstanding pitching performance, the IronPigs were able to get him an early lead. They scored four runs against Trevor Cahill (0-1) in the bottom of the first inning to take a 4-0 lead. Justin Williams hit a two-run single that scored Jean Segura and Donny Sands. Nick Maton then scored on a passed ball and Chris Sharpe hit an RBI single that would score Williams.

The IronPigs scored two runs against Rob Zastrysny in the bottom of the fifth inning to extend their lead to 6-0 as Guthrie hit a two-run double that scored Johan Camargo and Sands.

Plassmeyer retired the first 15 batters he faced before giving up a lead-off double to Travis Blankenhorn in the top of the sixth inning. He proceeded to retire the next three batters before Francisco Alvarez led off the seventh inning with a home run to cut Lehigh Valley’s lead to 6-1.

Sam Coonrod pitched a scoreless inning of relief for a Good Shepherd Rehabilitation appearance. Tyler Cyr pitched a scoreless top of the ninth inning.

The IronPigs and Mets continue their series on Thursday evening at Coca-Cola Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
