Two Runs in 8th secure win for Pigs

Nick Maton’s RBI single the difference on Friday night

(Rochester, NY) – The Lehigh Valley IronPigs (34-41) edged out a 3-2 win against the Rochester Red Wings (30-43) on Friday night. Nick Maton’s RBI single against Nick Wells (0-1) in the top of the eighth inning proved to be the difference in the game.

Jorge Bonifacio gave Lehigh Valley a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as he hit a home run against Matt Tomshaw. Jake Noll tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the first when he hit a home run against Tyler Alexander.

The Pigs broke the 1-1 tie in the top of the eighth inning when they scored two runs against Wells. Charlie Tilson’s go-ahead RBI triple to score Logan Moore was the first run in the inning. It was followed by Maton’s RBI single. Former IronPigs infielder Ali Castillo hit an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning to cut the Pigs’ lead to 3-2.

Damon Jones (1-2) earned the win for Lehigh Valley as he pitched two scoreless innings while recording four strikeouts. Mauricio Llovera earned his fourth save of the season by pitching a scoreless bottom of the ninth inning.

The Pigs and Red Wings will play a double header on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 4:35 p.m.
