The Chattanooga Lookouts defeated the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp 5-2. On Sunday, the Chattanooga Lookouts and the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp faced off for the fourth time at AT&T Field. Chattanooga got off to a bit of a slow start but bounced back to claim their fourth consecutive victory against Jacksonville in four days.
Twins #4 overall prospect, Fernando Romero, drew the start for the Lookouts on Sunday, and pitched well. Romero tossed 5.0 innings, allowing six hits, two runs, two earned runs, issued three walks, and struck out six. Romero (8-6, 2.82) earned his eighth win of the season in the process.
Jacksonville started the scoring early, when John Norwood reached base safely on an infield single. Braxton Lee scored from third base on Norwood's single. Jacksonville extended their lead 2-0 in the top of the second inning when Austin Dean crossed the plate as Lee grounded into a force out.
In the bottom of the second inning, Chattanooga tied the game 2-2 when Travis Harrison ripped a double to left field, allowing Max Murphy and Ryan Walker to score on the play. Chattanooga took the lead in the bottom of the second on a Nick Gordon RBI single to center field, which allowed Harrison to score from second base, making the score 3-2 in favor of the Lookouts.
The Lookouts maintained their 3-2 lead until the bottom of the eighth when they added two insurance runs. Carlos Paulino got things started in the bottom of the eighth with a beautiful sacrifice bunt, allowing T.J. White to score from third. The Lookouts would then take advantage of a throwing error by Jacksonville shortstop, Alex Yarbrough. Gordon reached base safely on Yarbrough's errant throw, and Harrion scored, to give the Lookouts a 5-2 lead.
Paul Clemens entered the game in the bottom of the ninth inning for the Lookouts, and earned his second save of the season after allowing one hit, issuing one walk, and striking out one, in 1.0 innings pitched.
Harrison was named the Henpecked Hot Chicken Player of the Game, after going 1-for-3 with a 2B, 2R, 2RBI, and a BB in Sunday's game. RHP, Ryan Eades was named the Ace of the Game for the Lookouts after pitching 3.0 innings of relief, allowing two hits, issuing one walk, and striking out two. Eades was also credited with his third hold of the season.
On Monday, July 17th, the Lookouts and the Jumbo Shrimp will meet in the series finale at AT&T Field at 11:15 AM (ET) for an RJ Young Business Person Special, as the Lookouts will look to sweep the series. The Lookouts will send RHP, Felix Jorge (8-1, 3.14) to the mound to start the game. RHP, Omar Bencomo (4-4, 4.38) will get the start for the Jumbo Shrimp.
