Lookouts Fall to Generals 9-3

On Monday night, the Chattanooga Lookouts were defeated by the Jackson Generals 9-3. Jackson struck first, as they took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning courtesy of a Victory Reyes RBI double to right field. Jackson extended their lead 2-0 in the top of the second inning when Daniel Lockhart grounded into a double play, allowing Vladimir Frias to score from third base.

The mighty Generals offense exploded for four runs in the top of the third inning to take a 6-0 lead. The Generals scored their first run of the inning on a balk, which allowed Emilio Bonifacio to cross the plate. Kelly Dugan followed with a line drive double to right field, scoring Reyes from third base. Power hitter, Jamie Westbrook, then stepped to the plate and delivered an RBI single to right field, plating Dugan from second base. Marty Herum rounded out the scoring for Jackson in the top of the third inning with an RBI double to center field. Frias scored from first base on the play to give the Generals a 6-0 lead.

Chattanooga got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning when T.J. White reached base safely on a throwing error, which allowed Levi Michael to score on the play. Chattanooga managed to cut the deficit in half when Max Murphy roped an RBI triple to right field. Edgar Corcino and White both scored on the triple from Murphy. Jackson added some late inning insurance runs beginning in the top of the seventh inning when the ever dangerous Kevin Cron launched a two-run home run over the left center field wall, giving the Generals an 8-3 lead. Jackson's ninth and final run of the game came via a line drive single from Frias. Dugan scored from second, to give the Generals a 9-3 lead.

Jackson starter, Alex Young (8-6, 4.00) earned the win, while Chattanooga starter, Fernando Romero (11-7, 2.96) suffered the loss.

Chattanooga and Jackson will meet for the final time at AT&T Field in 2017, in the series finale on Tuesday, August 8th. The first pitch is set for 7:15 PM (ET). RHP, Felix Jorge (9-2, 3.51) will get the start for the Chattanooga. Jackson will also elect to send a right hander to the mound, as Joel Payamps (5-5, 5.40) will make his fourteenth start of the season.
