Bats Take Marathon Game in 16th, Win 4-2
After a couple of innings of solid pitching, the Bats managed to strike first in the top of the fourth after Ryan Hanigan doubled and Jay Bruce walked to put base runners on with zero outs. The Reds' rehab players both scored on a Todd Frazier single to give the Bats the lead.
The Indians responded in the bottom half after Erik Kratz sacrifice flied to center scoring Tagg Bozied, making the score 2-1 Bats.
With the Bats in the driver seat going into the bottom of the ninth, Louisville opted for Enerio Del Rosario to close the game. Rosario, going for his fifth save of the season, blew the opportunity after Hector Gimenez scored on a RBI ground-out by Brian Bixler, which tied the game.
The Bats finally took the lead, and the game, in the top of the sixteenth on a passed ball by Indians catcher Kratz that scored Michael Griffin. Louisville added another in the inning on a single by Frazier that scored Chris Denove.
Indianapolis failed to rally, and fell to the Bats after a hard-fought game that tied the longest game for Louisville this season.
Greg Atencio (2-0, 8.31) got his second win for the Bats this season after pitching four perfect innings, while striking out four.
Todd Frazier led the Bats on offense, going 4-for-7 on the night with two RBI's. Juan Francisco also went 3-for-6 with a double for Louisville.
The Bats continue action tomorrow in Indianapolis at 6:00pm. Probable starters are LHP Camilo Vasquez (0-0, 5.00) for the Bats and RHP Jeremy Powell (4-7, 3.93) for the Indians.
