Des Moines, IA – Jose Barerro shined with four hits, four runs, six RBI and a big three-run blast as the Bats snapped an eight-game skid with an emphatic 17-5 win over the Iowa Cubs on Wednesday night at Principal Park.

Scoring 17 runs on 17 hits, the Bats set new season highs in runs, home runs, and extra base hits in a game. The team exploded for seven runs in the fifth, two in the sixth and six more in the seventh. Barrero, Chris Okey and Michael De Leon each homered with TJ Friedl adding a triple and four other Bats contributing doubles as the team sprayed the ball across the diamond.

Reiver Sanmartin tossed 5.0 solid innings, allowing only one run off three hits while recording two strikeouts to earn his second win of the season.

Barrero, who finished 4-for-5, has now hit safely in 14 of his last 16 games and reached base safely in 21 consecutive contests with the Bats.

The Bats and the I-Cubs continue their six-game series on Thursday at 8:08 p.m. ET. Red’s top prospect Hunter Greene (2-4, 4.45) will take the mound after a dominant nine strikeout performance in his last outing as he faces off against LHP Justin Steele (0-0, 1.56).
