LOWELL, MA - The rough home stand continued for Lowell (21-20) as the Spinners dropped their fourth straight game after falling to State College (17-23).
The Spinners sent their ace, Eduard Bazardo, out to the hill and delivered a solid performance in five innings. He struck out five and walked one but surrendered two earned runs on five hits. His offense struggled to get him any run support as he picked up the loss on the evening.
A special milestone was reached in the bottom of the sixth when Jarren Duran roped his 10th triple of the season, breaking the franchise single-season record previously held by Michael Myers in 2014. Xavier LeGrant put the Spinners on the board with a sacrifice fly, cutting the lead to 2-1.
After Kris Jackson kept it close for the Spinners with two innings of scoreless relief, the Spikes jumped on Andrew Politi for three runs in the top of the ninth, shutting the door on any rally the Spinners could have had.
The home stand ends on Sunday with Brian Brown taking the mound for Lowell. First pitch is scheduled for 5:35 p.m.
