LOWELL, MA - The Spinners (30-27) returned from the road looking to snap a three-game losing streak against the division-leading Tri-City ValleyCats (33-25). Luckily for Lowell, the offense came out in full force in front of the home crowd.
Lowell fell behind early after Tri-City put three runs on the board in the second inning off of right-hander Jose Gonzalez. On the day he struck out three, walked three, and allowed four hits.
The offense roared back with a four-run fourth inning sparked by Tyler Dearden leading off with a single. Devlin Granberg moved him over to third on a double to set up an RBI single from Tyler Esplin. Alberbto Schmidt put the Spinners on top with a three-run home run, his first of the season, to make it a 4-3 game.
Korby Batesole led off the fifth with a walk and stole second to put himself into scoring positions. Tyler Esplin late drove him in on a fielding error.
Another four-run inning in the sixth put the game out of reach for Tri-City. Schmidt got the bats going with a single and Jonathan Ortega then doubled. Batesole brought in Schmidt on a single before Tyler Dearden single up the middle to drive in Ortega. A double from New York-Penn League active batting leader Devlin Granberg put the Spinners on top 9-3.
More runs came in the seventh when Ortega singled up the middle to bring home Ramfis Berroa. Batesole later brought in Ortega with a single to make it 11-3.
With the victory the Spinners return to LeLacheur Park on Saturday looking to pull 1.5 games within the ValleyCats in the division-lead. First pitch is scheduled for 5:35 p.m.
