LOWELL, MA - Kicking off the final home-stand of the season, the Spinners (34-36) made their road to the postseason more challenging after getting blanked by the Tri-City ValleyCats (39-31).
Left-hander Yorvin Pantoja made the start for the Spinners and struck out four batters in five innings of work. He walked one and surrendered a pair of earned runs.
Andrew Politi was tagged for three runs in one inning of relief and Francisco Lopez-Soto surrendered a pair as the offense only mustered three hits on the night, two of which came off the bat of outfielder Tyler Esplin.
Following the loss, the Spinners now must win out and needs the ValleyCats to lose their last five games in order to take the tie-breaker in the division. The Spinners also trail in the Wild Card but are behind five teams.
Right-hander Chase Shugart makes his Spinners debut on Thursday night with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
