LOWELL, Mass. -- The New York-Penn League and Lowell Spinners released statements regarding start of the 2020 season this week.

"We remain hopeful that Major League Baseball will resolve their issue with the Players Association and get the Major League players back on the field," the Spinners said. "We then look forward to MLB turning its attention to Minor League Baseball in hopes that they will send us the players needed to start our season as soon as possible. We appreciate everyone's patience during these unprecedented and unforeseen times. Be safe, be well and we hope to see you at LeLacheur Park soon."

The New York-Penn League also issued a statement on the ongoing virus pandemic delaying the season:

“Due to the ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic, the start of the 2020 New York-Penn League season is being delayed indefinitely. The League and its clubs will continue to monitor the situation and work with our Major League Baseball affiliates, while following the recommendations of public health officials and adhering to local re-opening guidelines.

As always, the health and safety of the New York-Penn League fans, players and staff members are our top priorities.

Additionally, the New York-Penn League All-Star Game has been canceled.”
