Spinners Announce Formal Apology

Lowell Spinners release statement for Canada Day incident

On Sunday, July 1, the Lowell Spinners ran a promotion entitled "Canada Night" in celebration of Canada Day.

Prior to the game, a member of the Spinners' staff volunteered to sing the Canadian National Anthem. Due to an audio delay between the microphone and our speakers, combined with his inexperience performing in front of a large crowd, the quality of his performance did not meet the standard our fans have come to expect from National Anthem performances at LeLacheur Park.

The Lowell Spinners formally apologize to those offended by the staffer's rendition of the Canadian National Anthem. The promotion was intended to celebrate Canada Day and show Canadian culture in a positive light, not to mock the great nation of Canada or anyone of Canadian descent.

The Spinners apologize for the substandard performance and, in the future, will ensure that all renditions of National Anthems, whether for the United States, Canada, or any other nationality, will be screened in advance and performed to the highest quality within our control.
