LOWELL, MA - A tough pitcher's duel came down to the final frame as the Spinners (21-18) dropped a heartbreaker to the Hudson Valley Renegades (26-13).
The Renegades struck first in the second inning with an unearned run off of Thaddeus Ward. The fifth-round draft pick tossed four innings, a walk, and a pair of strikeouts.
Lowell struck back in the bottom of the third when Xavier LeGrant led off the inning with a double. After getting moved over to third, Grant Williams brought him in on a groundout to tie the game.
Hunter Haworth was solid out of the bullpen with three scoreless innings. He struck out a pair, walked one, and allowed two hits.
The Spinners took the lead in the bottom of the seventh after Devlin Granberg and Alan Marrero led off the inning with a pair of singles. Kole Cottam blasted a double to score Granberg, giving the Spinners a 2-1 lead.
A late rally from Hudson Valley sank the Spinners after Oddanier Mosqueda surrendered three earned runs and Andrew Politi gave up another as a four-run ninth put the Renegades on top 5-2.
After dropping two of the last three, Lowell kicks off a three-game home stand with the State College Spikes on Friday at LeLacheur Park with first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
