The Lowell Spinners, short-season affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, are proud to announce they have become the first short-season team in the country to install LED lights at LeLacheur Park. The brand new, energy-efficient lighting system provides the ballpark with a more advanced and efficient lighting system than any other club at this level across the nation.
The new light system will provide better visibility for players, coaches, and fans alike while minimizing light pollution and glare at LeLacheur Park, which was voted as the best short-season ballpark in the country this past season by Ballpark Digest. The new lights will be a key part of the Spinners long-term future, and come with a 25-year parts and labor warranty.
"The decision to install new energy-efficient lights at LeLacheur is good all the way around" said Spinners owner Dave Heller. "The team and the university each reduce energy consumption, save electricity, and help protect the environment while creating the most optimal playing conditions for UMass-Lowell and Red Sox players. It's good for the Red Sox, UMass-Lowell, our fans, our beautiful ballpark, and the environment. Plus with the new warranty, now we won't have to worry about lighting again until 2043!"
Among those most excited for the new lights are the Boston Red Sox. "We are excited that the Spinners are installing state-of-the-art LED lighting in LeLacheur Park that separates them from their peers." said Red Sox Vice President of Player Development Ben Crockett. "This will help better prepare our players for Boston and shows the Spinners' continued commitment to the Red Sox organization and the Spinners fans."
This is the first of several major renovations to LeLacheur Park, which also hosts the UMass-Lowell baseball team, for 2018. The Spinners have announced plans to install a new playing surface and irrigation system before beginning construction on a new two-tier party deck and a two-tiered group area as part of a concourse extension along the right field line.
