LOWELL, MA - The Spinners (34-38) hoped to break out of a two-game skid as they closed their series with the division champion Tri-City ValleyCats. Unfortunately, a slow night at the plate and some late bullpen woes sank the Spinners.
Starting pitcher Yasel Santana turned in one of the most impressive pitching performances of the season, in his debut nonetheless, by striking out seven batters in five innings. He allowed only one hit and one walk without allowing any runs.
The ValleyCats got on the board against Alex Demchak in the top of the seventh inning for a pair of earned runs before Danny Bethea closed out the inning. Bethea would go on to give up three runs in the top of the eighth, putting Tri-City on top 5-0.
The offense mustered only two hits on the evening highlighted by a Trey Ganns double.
Lowell now welcomes the Connecticut Tigers to LeLacheur for the final three-game series of the season. First pitch is scheduled for Saturday at 5:35 p.m.
