Clinton, IA - Clinton centerfielder Jabari Henry has been named Midwest League Player of the Week, an honor he shares with Peoria pitcher Tyrell Jenkins. From April 29-May 5, Henry hit .409 (9-for-22) with a pair of doubles, three home runs, 11 RBIs, seven runs and five walks. The weekly honor is the first for a LumberKing this year.
In Henry's last 12 games he is hitting .442 (19-for-43) with 13 runs, 15 RBIs, 3 SB's, 5 2B's, 3 HR's and 13 BB's. The torrid two weeks had Henry sitting third in the Midwest League in hitting at .370 entering play on Monday. His .480 on-base percentage is good for second in the league.
The Mariners drafted Henry in the 18th round of the 2012 June Draft out of Florida International University. The Florida native spent most of 2012 with the Pulaski Mariners of the Appalachian League. In 58 games he hit .271 and led the team with 42 RBIs and eight home runs.
