Clinton, IA - The Midwest League announced Monday that LumberKings' middle infielder Ketel Marte has been named MWL Player of the Week for his efforts from July 29th through August 4th.
Marte started six of the seven games he appeared in during the week and collected a multi-hit game in all six contests. During the six-game stretch, the Dominican Republic native had two four-hit games, two three-hit games and two two-hit games. In all, he hit .667 (18-for-27) with six runs scored, four RBIs, three stolen bases, four walks, two doubles and a triple.
Marte is currently riding a 12-game hitting streak and hitting .329 in the second-half. Marte, 19, was recently named as the number 20 prospect in the Mariners organization by MLB.com. The switch-hitter leads the LumberKings in runs scored with 57 and stolen bases with 16.
Marte is the third Clinton player to be honored with the league's weekly award. Jabari Henry was Player of the Week in early May and Victor Sanchez was Pitcher of the Week after he tossed a no-hitter July 17.
