CLINTON, IA (July 12, 2017) - The Clinton LumberKings rode a come from behind effort to a rained shortened 9-3 win over the Dayton Dragons on Wednesday night at Ashford University Field. Luis Rengifo paced the LumberKings (7-13, 38-49) offense with a 3-for-4 night at the plate that included, five RBI, with two doubles, and a home run.
Robert Dugger started for the LumberKings and allowed all of the Dragons (6-14, 47-43) runs in the top of the first inning. Four straight hits opened the game for Dayton, to bring home the first two runs of the inning with the third and final run of the rally scoring on a Nick Zammarelli error at first base.
Clinton wasted no time in answering Dayton striking for a two-run rally in the bottom of the first inning. One of Santillan's (5-5) three wild pitches eventually scored Quevedo who had moved to third on consecutive walks.
The LumberKings drew eight walks in the game to build their insurmountable lead.
In the bottom of the second inning, Clinton took the lead for good, again rallying with two out in the inning. Joe Rizzo singled and Bryson Brigman walked to put two men on. Rengifo then homered to left center field for a three-run blast that gave Clinton a 5-3 lead, his eight home run of the season.
An inning later, in the bottom of the third, the LumberKings batted around for four runs to put the game out of reach.
After Dugger (4-1) recorded the final out of the top of the fifth the contest became an official game. In the bottom of the fifth with two out and Brigman at third home plate umpire Donnie Smith waved for the tarp as rain began to fall and the game was then called an half hour later.
