Braves and BayBears Split Doubleheader

Mississippi Wins Game One 6-3, Mobile Takes Game Two 5-2

MOBILE, AL - The Braves had a chance to clinch the five-game series after coming from behind to win game one of the doubleheader, but the BayBears proved to much in game two as they came from behind to win and keep their series hopes alive.

MOBILE, AL - The Braves had a chance to clinch the five-game series after coming from behind to win game one of the doubleheader, but the BayBears proved to much in game two as they came from behind to win and keep their series hopes alive.

Mississippi (8-10) wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in game one plating a run in the top of the first inning. Alay Lago singled with one out, advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on Tyler Neslony's single to right to give the Braves a 1-0 lead.
Both teams were shut out until the fifth inning when Travis Demeritte led off the inning with his second home run of the season, a 415' shot over the left center wall, giving the Braves a 2-0 lead.
Mobile (8-9) finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth with doubles by Riley Unroe and Bo Way to lead off the inning. The Braves lead was 2-1 going to the sixth frame.
The BayBears took the lead in the sixth, scoring two runs on two hits and two walks. Touki Toussaint took the lead into the sixth, but was pulled after walking the leadoff hitter. Conor Justus then hit into a fielder's choice. The next two batters, Brendon Sanger and Unroe, singled scoring Justus. Sanger scored on a fielder's choice by Brennon Lund and Mobile took the lead going to the seventh frame.
Mississippi sent 10 batters to the plate in their half of the seventh to take a 6-3 lead. After back to back ground outs to begin the inning, Luis Valenzuela walked and scored on Cleuluis Rondon's double to left tying the score at 3-3. Michael Reed walked on a pitch clock violation fourth ball, then Lago doubled to left plating Rondon. After Austin Riley was intentionally walked, Tyler Neslony drew a walk scoring Reed and Jonathan Morales was hit by a pitch plating Lago.
Touki Toussaint did not factor in the decision pitching five innings allowing two runs on four hits with five walks and six strikeouts. Josh Graham pitched the sixth allowing one run on one hit with one walk and one strikeout. Jacob Webb shut out the BayBears with two strikeouts in the seventh.
In Game two, Mississippi once again scored in the first inning. Austin Riley drove a two out triple to left center field then scored on Tyler Neslony's single giving the Braves a 1-0 lead.
Tyler Marlette led off the second with a double, advanced to third on a fly out to center field and scored on a wild pitch to give the Braves a 2-0 lead.
Mobile got on the board in the second when Jose Rojas led off with a double, went to third on a ground to short and scored on a single by Bo Way cutting the Braves lead to 2-1.
The BayBears took advantage of four walks and an error by the Braves, plating four runs, three unearned, in the fifth to take a 5-2 lead.
Michael Mader looked good in his first start of 2018 pitching three innings allowing one run on three hits with one walk and four strikeouts. Tyler Pike threw one and two thirds innings allowing four runs, one earned, on one hit with five walks and one strikeout. Devan Watts pitched the final one and a third shutting out the BayBears on two hits with one walk and one strikeout.
Tuesday the Braves and BayBears will play game four of the five-game series at Hank Aaron Stadium in Mobile, AL. Mississippi will send RHP Wes Parsons (0-0, 0.84) to the hill and Mobile counters with LHP Jose Suarez (0-0, 2.45) Game time is 6:35 PM (CT)
